Conceptual Photography Response
I Miss You-
This photo shows great lighting and even better contrast.
Trauma #2-
An extreme professional photographer must have taken this
photo because it is well thought out and captures a
story very well.
Never Been Alone-
This photo has a good setup of photo adjustment
and the contrast is very good.
Adventure After Life-
This photo shows a great angle for this photo to be taken,
and also has good contrast.
1882-
This photo shows great normal contrast within the whole photo.
2.
This group of photos all show a large use of shadow, deeper meaning than what is seen, creative use of light, and they all consist of a person in the piece giving humanity to the photograph.
3.
The group of photos shows forms of danger, they all use a human element, they all have a lonely depiction with sorrowness, and a spurt of loss.
4.
I miss you- A girl is missing somebody she loves or loved who either died or left her. She drew this person to hold them one more time and wore a dress to represent their memories. Never been alone shows a man lost in the woods with nothing but a flashlight to guide him home.

Critique #2
In this photo
I see a 3 men clothes in dark clothing and fully covered except for their hands
and eyes. One of the men holds a whip and is in motion to strike another man
lying on a bench or table near the man with the whip. He is clothed in a blue
and light blue striped jumpsuit and he is lying on his stomach with his hands
covering his ears as if in terror. All four of these men appear to be on a
podium in the middle of an intersection. People everywhere surround them,
people are watching from inside windows of nearby buildings, on top of the
buildings, on the streets, and everywhere possible. Everybody is wearing
clothes that cover 90 percent of their body, so it looks like a cold
environment. The stoplight next to them is green, but no cars are able to pass
because there are people covering the entire street.
I
like this photo because it’s very powerful and tells a strong message. Although
there are sunrays across the man with the whip, the rest of the image shows the
subject following the rule of thirds. The color is lacking throughout this
photo, but the sky was captured well.
The
technical components of this image are well thought through, but also lacking
some. The focus is out of proportion,
but is easy to tell that the main subject is the guy lying on the bench or
table. The sunrays are also very visible, which makes the photo a little less
credit to the technical side. The glare of sun shows how much light was present
when the photo was taken, and obviously should not have showed so much light. This
photo has normal contrast. The amounts of pure blacks, whites, and gray tones
are equal.
When
I look at this photo, it makes me sad. The photographer captured a strong
moment that shows how our world differs from place to place. This photo shows the story of a man being
whipped because he was accused of rape.

Critique #1
This photograph looks like a doll-sized backyard with a
pool, pool house, chairs and tables, a couple trees, and flowers. The photo
looks fake because the focus of the image is a little off and it focuses more
on the pool to take the focus away from the small details like the trees and
chairs. The photographer took this photo from about three or so feet away. The
sun or light was present while this photo was taken and it came from the left
top corner, and I know this because of the angle of the shadows. The
cylinder-like, aqua blue pool cover and the ladder to get out of the blue area
tells me that this subject is a pool. The photo looks like it was taken on a
school desk, but was intended to look like sand since the background has the
same color as each. I really like that the pool is in the center of the photo
because it draws the attention right away, and I also like that its almost the
only subject within the photo that actually has a good amount of color. Another
thing that attracts my eyes to this photo is the fact that the pool is off
center and tilted just a little. I don’t really know why, but it makes the
picture look even more attractive. All objects in the photo are in the middle
and it leaves a lot of space on the outside, and I don’t like this because it
makes everything look very clustery and clumped. The contrast of this photo is
low. There are many gray tones throughout the shadows, pool ladder, and other
small subjects. The black tones are rare in this photo, for I don’t see any
pure black. The pure white is shown through the pool edge, the table, a pool
tube, and a small disk in the pool. This photo makes me think of summer and my
old house in Minnesota. It reminds me of my old house because we had a pool
that looked just like this with a pool house at the same location as this one,
just bigger. The trees on the bottom remind me of Minnesotan trees, but the
palm trees remind me of Florida.

Gottfried Helnwein Response 2
My interpretation of the image changed a lot because it
shows how cropped inside the image was and how easy it is to assume the picture
wasn’t zoomed in and was taken how seen.
The image shows a young girl with a very pale skin tone, red
lips that are very chapped and look irritated, green eyes, natural eyelashes,
and a golden blonde hair with wavy curls. The location of the image is more
rural than urban. The image is cropped at her mid forehead, and both sides of
her head are closed in with curls, but is obvious to see she had a head of
thick hair, and was cropped out. Her chin isn’t all-visible, it is also cropped
out to see only a fraction of her face. I don’t think anyone is intended to see
the image, since it is in the country or an abandoned building. The location
may also be a billboard, which has yet to be up. The location of this photo is near water,
which can be seen at the lower end of the image. The girl looks very unamused
and hazy to her surroundings. She looks like she knows what is going on, but is
wondering upon her surroundings.
Gottfried Helwein response
In the
image, a person who seems to be a girl is looking at the photographer. She has
a green eye with no mascara. It appears she is wearing a lot of makeup,
foundation, and wants her appearance to look natural. Her skin tone is very pale. A small man is
climbing on her nose, stopped right on the bridge. He is attached to a skinny
rope that goes up her face and down following her nose and mouth. The picture
is a crop from the end of her right eye, up about halfway of her forehead, to the
end of her left nostril, and down to see a small portion of her lips. This image is obviously photo shopped due to
the man on her nose. The interpretation I have after seeing how small the man
is compared to the girl is different than if I would have seen the image
without the man. The photographer’s intent of this image is to show perspective
and how it can affect the human brain by photoshopping a smaller image into a
real life woman.
